WeChat Pay

What is WeChat Pay?

WeChat, developed by Tencent, is a social media app often referred to as a "super app" with approximately 1.33 billion active users worldwide. In China, WeChat is almost everywhere. Users can send messages, make video calls, post updates like in social media, and perform everyday tasks such as shopping, ordering food, and booking travels through the app. Statistics show that WeChat users spend an average of around 90 minutes on the app each day. This indicates that WeChat has become deeply integrated into users' daily lives.

WeChat Pay, one of WeChat's core features, allows users to make online and in-store payments through the app. Since its launch in 2013, WeChat Pay has quickly gained popularity, becoming one of the most widely used mobile payment methods in China. With WeChat Pay, users can easily complete transactions by scanning QR codes, making in-app payments, or using mini-programs.

How does WeChat Pay work?

Online on mobile:

1. The customer selects WeChat Pay as the payment method during checkout.

2. The customer is redirected to Wechat Pay, where they authorize and make the payment.

3. Once the payment is completed, the funds are either deducted from the customer’s linked bank card or taken from their available WeChat Pay balance (if they have preloaded funds). The payment result is then instantly communicated to both the customer and the merchant.

In-store:
